The session will aim to provide or highlight: 

  • A refresher on the  main sources of  law, policy and practice  under the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012;
  • Key Contractual Terms and Specification rules;
  • What is in scope of legal aid; 
  • Financial eligibility and  evidence of means in controlled and licensed work;
  • Remuneration rules and rates including expert and counsel rates;
  • What can be claimed under controlled and licensed work;

File management in order to comply with various legal aid contractual requirements.

Tutor biographies:Solange Valdez, is Ealing Law Centre’s supervising solicitor. She is committed to legal aid work. She writes updates and supports  immigration practitioners on legal aid issues.  

Marie-Christine Allaire-Rousse, she is an Immigration Solicitor at South West Law Ltd and the Immigration category supervisor. She does legal aid work. In November 2014 she was appointed to the Legal Aid Agency Funding & Costs Appeals Review Panel as an Independent Funding & Costs Adjudicator (Immigration Specialist).
