DT 1360 Nationality law: registration of children
By the end of this session practitioners will have a thorough and detailed understanding of the more difficult and complex issues that arise when making applications for the registration of a child as a British citizen.
Adrian Berry is a barrister at Garden Court Chambers. Chambers UK describes him thus:” has a "first-class brain" ... Amongst other things, he stands out for his expertise in British nationality matters.” He is a member of ILPA’s Executive Committee.
Alison Harvey is a non-practising barrister and General Secretary of ILPA. She has written widely on nationality law.
Adrian Berry and Alison Harvey are both contributors to Fransman’s British Nationality Law (3rd edition, 2011) and have a particular interest in complex nationality questions both in the UK and overseas. Both of them have been involved in (successful) parliamentary lobbying to change nationality law as it deals with the registration of children.

| Audience: | AImed at Lawyers and advisers who make applications for registration of children as a British citizens. The course is useful for those who wish to get to grips with the really difficult issues that arise when making applications and who wish to work through the types of complex problems that re-occur in their work. There will be plenty of opportunity during the session to share best practice among colleagues. The course is not recommended for those who attended ILPA’s October 2011 course DT 1317 Advanced course on applications for naturalisation and registration as a British citizen as there will be a substantial amount of repetition, although of course they are welcome to attend if they would like to do so. This course considers the UK Border Agency policies as to when a child may be registered as a British citizen at discretion in more detail. |
