DT 1795 Good Practice in Working with Unaccompanied Children (UPRIGHTS)

This course aims to provide good practice lessons on working with unaccompanied refugee children. The session will provide an insight into the legal and policy framework relating to the rights and entitlements of refugee children. Attendees will gain information about the guidelines, standards and good practice for working with children; how to identify child specific persecution and protection needs; and means of collecting and evaluating their evidence.   

This course forms part of ILPA's project on ‘Upholding Legal Rights for Unaccompanied Children: Fostering Quality Legal Assistance in the Asylum Procedure’ - in collaboration with ECRE. The aim of this project is to ensure access to quality legal assistance for unaccompanied children by improving the knowledge of legal standards that protect and promote children’s rights in Europe, including the right to asylum.

This course will provide a basic background context with a view to covering intermediate/advanced issues in immigration law in sport. Delegates will have an understanding of: How immigration law operates in the professional sports context, the particular challenges to the sports sector, and the sport governing bodies - their policy framework and rationale on overseas players, and their dealings with the Home Office.
